Roller Barrier, designed and developed by Insight Security, is an entirely safe yet highly effective anti climb solution. This highly versatile rotating anti climb device can be installed as a wall topper, a fence topper or as rooftop protection. Wherever safe, non-aggressive anti climb protection is needed Roller Barrier provides an effective, affordable solution.
Roller Barrier is a totally non-aggressive, rotating anti climb barrier that’s ideal for installation wherever a safe anti climb solution is needed. The fact that Roller Barrier is non-aggressive, unlike anti climb spikes and barbed wire, makes it entirely suitable for use in areas where aggressive anti climb barriers would be unsuitable. For example; prisons, psychiatric establishments and other locations where its non-aggressive appearance does not induce fear, anger or anxiety that can be triggered by more aggressive looking anti climb systems. This non-aggressive anti climb barrier design has become the anti climb system of choice for many schools, local authorities, care institutions and hospitals.
Roller Barrier anti climb spinner system is easily retro-fitted as an anti climb wall topper, fence topper or gateway topper. It is widely used to safely protect rooftops from unwanted climbers along with many other structures and boundaries that had previously attracted intrusive climbers.
The Roller Barrier system is very simple, consisting of loosely rotating robust polycarbonate Roller Cups mounted on a strong central shaft, supported at regular intervals using weather-protected supporting brackets. The Roller Cups are manufactured from unbreakable, recyclable polycarbonate, specially treated for UV protection. The dimensions have been carefully determined to make it impossible to gain a reliable hand hold.
Roller Barrier has now been installed on some sites for over 18 years, providing continuous, reliable anti climb security without any need for maintenance.
Did you know that if an intruder injured themselves while climbing over anti climb spikes fixed to your walls, or fences, you could find yourself being prosecuted?
Roller Barrier is the ideal anti climb solution for any situation in which an aesthetically pleasing, totally safe anti climb barrier is required. The rotating Roller Barrier cups are simply too large to get a grip on which immediately deters any climbing attempts. This attribute makes the system entirely suitable for any situation where children or vulnerable people might attempt to climb in or out of a protected area.
In and around schools, for example, Roller Barrier is used to bolster perimeter security and prevent kids from climbing onto rooftops and other structures where they can potentially cause damage and injure themselves.
Single row Roller Barrier is the most popular form of this highly effective rotating anti climb barrier. The single row system simply consists of straight rows of Roller Cups, mounted on robust central shafts, attached with strong brackets.
Single row Roller Barrier is sold by the metre and is widely used to provide wall top, fence top and rooftop security. Parks, public spaces, railway trackside fencing and domestic properties have all bolstered security using single row Roller Barrier.
Single row Roller Barrier is simple, affordable and easily installed wherever reliable, safe anti climb prevention is needed.
Double row Roller Barrier consists of two, parallel rows of rotating Roller Cups mounted on robust aluminium shafts. The double row of rotating Roller Barrier cups is particularly useful in high security applications.
Another useful application is situations in which safely and securely increasing the height of boundary fencing or walls is required. For example, a UK railway station that was troubled by fare-dodgers, who would jump over railway platform fencing, overcame this challenge by safely extending the height of the fencing using double row Roller Barrier.
Trigard or triple row Roller Barrier consists of three parallel rows of rotating Roller Cups, mounted on robust supporting shafts. This form of anti climb protection is ideal for protecting parapets, double-width wall tops and fence tops. It is also extremely useful for protecting low level walls and other structures that can sometimes be used as a vantage point to gain access to upper levels.
Roller Barrier has been successfully deployed and in use for over 18 years so the list of establishments, sites and installation locations has become very long.
Many schools now use Roller Barrier as the anti climb system of choice to protect perimeters as well as rooftops and other structures within the school.
Psychiatric hospitals and care facilities widely use Roller Barrier as the non-aggressive nature and appearance of the Roller Barrier system doesn’t risk causing injury and doesn’t make an establishment look like a fortress.
Prisons and young offenders institutions widely use Roller Barrier both externally, around perimeters and along rooftops, as well as internally to prevent climbing on internal ledges and structures.
Railway trackside and platform-side fencing has been enhanced with the addition of Roller Barrier to keep people safely away from train tracks and prevent fare dodging.
Parks and sports facilities have deployed Roller Barrier along fence tops to prevent unpermitted access and site vandalism.
Public buildings and properties are using Roller Barrier to safely prevent unwanted intruders and climbers from getting onto rooftops.
Parkour enthusiasts, who were causing damage to city centre commercial building rooftops and essential air conditioning equipment, have been prevented by deploying Roller Barrier.
Commercial goods yards and supermarkets have successfully protected their sites from burglars and intruders by enhancing perimeter security with Roller Barrier.
And many domestic properties, homes and premises have safely bolstered security by installing Roller Barrier along boundary walls, fences and gateways. The system has been successfully used to boost the safety of adventurous autistic children in their homes.
Roller Barrier is now in use worldwide. Installations have taken place in the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Canada where Roller Barrier is providing ongoing, reliable anti climb protection in a wide variety of environments and weather conditions.
Many people are unaware that the occupier of a premises has a duty of care toward not only lawful visitors but also to trespassers and intruders. This means that if someone scales a wall or climbs onto a rooftop and injures themselves in the process, possibly on barbed wire or a spiked anti climb barrier, the occupier is potentially liable.
Roller Barrier entirely overcomes the possibility of causing harm by replacing aggressive, potentially harmful forms of anti climb protection.
Roller Barrier is manufactured in the UK by Insight Security. As the designers and developers of the versatile Roller Barrier system Insight Security provides ongoing quality assurance, ensuring customers are always fully satisfied with their anti climb security solution.
Roller Barrier is designed to last for many years with no significant maintenance requirements.
The system is supplied with a full three year warranty, from Insight Security, on all parts. But customers can be confident the system will last for many more years as there are now installations that are continuing to provide reliable anti climb defence over 18 years since initial installation.

When considering a property security or anti climb challenge it makes sense to conduct a site survey.
The site survey should identify all of the areas of vulnerability that would benefit from anti climb protection. For example, the perimeter of a property might need anti climb protection entirely around the property including gateways. And the property might also need anti climb protection along roof lines.
Roller Barrier is installed in straight runs so the site plan needs to identify where these are, what their lengths are and note any deviation in height or direction. The outcome of the site survey should be a site plan with each of the individual Roller Barrier linear runs clearly identified with their respective dimensions.
The site survey and plan should also identify areas in which additional protection, such as double row Roller Barrier, would be beneficial.
As mentioned, a Roller Barrier run is simply a single, straight length of Roller Barrier without any changes in height or deviation from a straight line.
A very simple installation, for example, might require anti climb defence along just one perfectly straight property boundary. This would potentially require just one Roller Barrier run of the required length. Dividing a proposed Roller Barrier installation into a a collection of Roller Barrier runs enables the required number or each component to be determined and ordered. Individual runs can be of any length and wherever there is a deviation from a straight line or change in height a new Roller Barrier run is started.
The Roller Barrier system is very simple consisting of just three primary components.
Roller Cups are 100mm long, so 10 cups are required for every metre of a single row Roller Barrier run. The Roller Barrier central shaft is available in lengths of 2 metres and stock supporting brackets are available off-the-shelf in a variety of designs to suit most installation requirements.
The maximum recommended distance between shaft supporting brackets is 2 metres. But for higher security applications and high risk installations, brackets at every 1 or 1.5 metres are recommended.
For Roller Barrier runs in excess of 2 metres it is necessary to join multiple Roller Barrier shafts. This is easily achieved using Roller Barrier joining spigots. And to retain the final Roller Cups neatly and securely in place, end security fixings are needed at each end of each run, two types are available.
Security fasteners should be used to attach the supporting brackets to the structure where Roller Barrier is deployed. The specific fastenings required are determined by the nature and location of the installation, as well as the material of the structure that the Roller Barrier is attached to. Always remember that we are happy to help with any Roller Barrier queries or challenges.
Roller barrier installation is simple using our versatile, adaptable mounting brackets. Lengths of Roller Barrier shaft are simply joined together, using joining spigots, to create the required Roller Barrier run length. The aluminium shaft can be easily cut to suit any dimension. Supporting brackets are mounted on the structure where the run is installed and Roller Cups are threaded onto the shaft. The Roller Cups at either end of the run should normally be installed on the outer side of the end mounting brackets with the solid face outward. The end fixing should then be installed to neatly retain these cups in place.
The Roller Barrier rotating anti climb system has been designed and manufactured to be entirely maintenance free.
Once installed the system will continue to provide reliable, safe anti climb protection for many years. The plastic Roller Cups are manufactured with additives to protect against plastic degradation due to constant exposure to the sun and outdoor weather conditions. And the colour has been stabilised to make certain there is no significant fading over time.
The only aspect of maintenance recommended is to routinely inspect the installation and possibly rotate the cups through 90 degrees to even out any surface fading that might take place.
